A farm family since 1915
Four generations of Woerners have worked the same Baldwin County ground, first for produce and now for sod. We believe green spaces make life better and give a community something to be proud of.
How a produce farm became a sod farm
The Woerner family began farming in Elberta, Alabama, in 1915. Edward James Woerner and his wife, Lillie Louise, raised six sons and two daughters, and the family farmed together as Edward J. Woerner and Sons, Inc.
By the mid-1970s the farm covered nearly 2,000 acres of local produce. When markets shifted, the family tried growing grass. It worked, and over time all of the land went to sod.
Today the family grows turfgrass on farms in Alabama, Louisiana and Florida, with sister farms in Hawaii, and runs landscape supply stores along the Gulf Coast.

What we stand for
Our goal hasn't changed in a century of farming: keep Turning America Green.
- Supply only high-quality turfgrass and landscape materials.
- Keep improving how we farm through research and new technology.
- Value hard work, and take pride in the sod and service we provide.
- Green spaces improve quality of life and contribute to community pride.

Our farms today
Each farm grows a range of grasses for different soils, shade and water conditions. Homeowners and contractors are welcome at all of them.
