Floratam St. Augustine
Like most St. Augustine grasses, Floratam is coarse-textured grass, but with longer and wider leaf blades. This dark green grass grows rapidly in both spring and summer. Floratam is less cold and shade tolerant than other St. Augustine grasses, needing plenty of sunshine. It has good recuperative qualities and is fairly wear-resistant.
SHADE TOLERANCE
Moderate to full sunlight
DROUGHT TOLERANCE
- Daily (0.5 – 1 inches) every 3 – 6 days
- Moderate to high water needs
- Thrives on wet sites
MOWING
- Ideal height: 2 – 3 inches
- Mow regularly with sharp rotary or reel mower
- Never remove more than 1/3 of the blade growth
MAINTENANCE
- Fertilize twice a year with a complete fertilizer
- Fertilize with 1lb of nitrogen per 1,000 sq. ft. over 2 – 3 summer applications
- Apply nitrogen at 2 – 66lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft. per year
SOIL
- Grows on a wide range of soils
- Prefers neutral to alkaline
- Excellent saline salt tolerance
- Ideal pH range: 6 – 6.9
WEAR TOLERANCE
- Fairly wear resistant
- Good recuperative qualities
- Not recommended for high traffic areas
