Same family, same farmland, a century on
A lot has changed since the first crops went in at Elberta. The goal hasn't: keep Turning America Green.
- 1915
The Woerner family begins farming in Elberta, Baldwin County, Alabama.
- 1970s
Edward J. Woerner and Sons farms nearly 2,000 acres of produce, then tries grass. It works, and the land goes to sod.
- Growth
Farms open in Louisiana, Florida (as Gulf Kist Sod) and Hawaii (as Southern Turf).
- Today
Farms and landscape supply stores across the Gulf South, still family-owned and run from Foley.
