Centipede
Centipede is a slow-growing, medium green, warm-season turfgrass. One of the most commonly used turfgrasses along the Gulf Coast, Centipede has a coarse texture, tolerates moderate shade and is very durable. Its low maintenance makes it an excellent general-purpose turf.
SHADE TOLERANCE
- Moderate to full sunlight
DROUGHT TOLERANCE
- Soaked through first 2 weeks (3 inches)
- Every other day next 2 weeks
- Watering needs vary based on soil type
MOWING
- Ideal height: 1-2 inches
- Every 10 days during growing season
- Sharp rotary or reel mower
- Never remove more than 1/3 of blade growth
MAINTENANCE
- Little to no nitrogen
- Ideal application: 15-0-15
SOIL
- Tolerates wide range
- Ideal pH: 5 – 6 (can tolerate up to 7)
- Best suited to well drained, fertile soils
WEAR TOLERANCE
- Fairly wear resistant
- Good recuperative qualities
- Not recommended for high traffic areas
